My wife's 2004 Jeep WJ Grand Cherokee was leaking anti-freeze after engine was off. Seemed to be leaking from the front seal or the gasket. Bought this Water Pump set a few weeks back, finally got a chance to install it yesterday.
Water Pump was exact replacement for what I took off. Sealing surface was nice & flat, impeller was nicely made, shaft was tight with no hint of wobble.
Bypass tube was nearly exact as well. The gasket was just basic cardboard and perfect fit and if you use it it would be best if you use a good gasket sealer like Permatex Copper Coat or Indian Head Gasket Shellac. Use the sealer on the bypass tube threads as well.
However, I recommend you go to the parts store and buy a quality Fel-Pro gasket with the red sealing bead at the right places. It's just good insurance on a job you only want to do once.
In the end, the install went perfect, but care is always needed for sealing & seating the gasket carefully and not having it slip around on you. That's where the Copper Coat is worth it's weight in 'copper'. The other hard part of this job is breaking the fan clutch nut loose. You'll need to rent the removal tool to break it loose. Check the fan clutch before hand. Spin the fan, it should stop almost immediately. If it spins freely or takes more than 1 second replace it now also.
Still, this combo kit is a overall great price/value, 2 of 3 parts were good quality the gasket is easy to replace. AM is just across the state from me and parts almost always arrive in 2 days. Other parts I have purchased from AM were taillights or headlights and the quality is nearly OEM at a much lower price.
